In World of Warcraft, a Druid is a class
that depends highly on his shape shifting and magic skills
in order to fight his enemies and support allies in
battle. Later on you will find out how a druid manages
himself in battle and how this particular is set apart
from the others. Here is our World of Warcraft
Druid guide, enjoy!
The druid class can only be availed of by the Night Elf race
of the Alliance and the Tauren race of the Horde.
The goal of this guide is to cover most of the basics of the
Druid class and is therefore not a primary source of advanced
strategies. General tips, however, will be added along the way.

Hybrid: Druid’s Role in WoW
While there are parent classes which focus on a particular
role or style in fighting such as a magic-reliant mage or a
skill-based warrior or thief, the Druid falls under a hybrid
category of these classes, the purpose of which is to make the
character a more versatile one. This means that the skills or
magic of the druid class do not necessarily fall under one
function.
Some skills are meant to help a druid in fighting with magic
and imitate the parent role of either a mage or priest
(depending on which magic types he uses), while other druid
skills allow the character to take the role of a tank or crowd
control that would have otherwise been filled in by a warrior
or a rogue.
Although druids can never be an exact replica of a warrior
or a mage, they also have abilities that are exclusive to their
own class. For example, when the druid is in bear form (the
warrior form of the class), he cannot wear armor heavier than
leather. But this does not make him helpless in head to head
fights because in this form he can heal himself in different
ways and can last longer in fights, making him at almost equal
footing with a regular, non-magic using warrior. This is
actually a hybrid in action.
Shape Shifting
But how does the druid change his skills? Being versatile
means that the druid is capable of being able to adapt and
change his or her fighting style in order to better respond to
a given situation. This is achieved through shape shifting,
which basically sums up the abilities of a druid. The druid can
either turn into a bear, cat, moonkin, tree and other forms of
natural beings.
By changing forms, the druid gains abilities and attributes
that he would not otherwise possess in his original state such
as, among many other things, better dodging rate when in cat
form and tougher skin in bear form. In fact, the benefits of
shape shifting are not seen only in battle. By changing form,
the druid can travel faster than most mounted characters. They
can turn into a dolphin to swim faster or take the flight form
to be able to fly at a much earlier level than other
classes.
For future reference, the default or non-transformed form of
the druid is called the caster form because the druid can cast
all of his non-shape shifting spells which would otherwise be
blocked when taking a different form.
Here are some facts you need to remember about shape
shifting:
- When transformed, you are immune to certain spells like
polymorph and disarm.
- Transforming also removes existing buffs such as frost,
which means that transforming might also help if done
timely.
- Some transformations can only be acquired through
questing or doing other task aside from leveling up. An
example would be the aquatic transformation.
- Certain damage or attack modifiers present in equipped
weapons such as attack speed and “chance on hit” attributes
are irrelevant when transformed.
- Transformation prevents the druid from using potions,
elixirs, or trinkets, with the exception of the Moonkin
form.
- You can’t mount while transformed.
