World of
Warcraft Fishing Guide
We have written this small
World of Warcraft Fishing guide
to help you better understand this secondary profession
and how you can profit from it.
While perhaps not the most popular or lucrative
profession in World of Warcraft, fishing is definitely an
interesting secondary profession that players should try to at
some point in their World of Warcraft lives. In any case, most
players don’t really have much to lose because fishing is a
secondary profession which, unlike primary professions that
only allow up to two kinds per character, can be taken up by
that player without barring him or herself from taking other
secondary professions like cooking or first aid.
Of course this is not to say that fishing is useless. In
fact, there are many perks to having the fishing skill on your
spare time. Fish is food, which can be used for restoring your
health. On the other hand, fishing can also be a good way to
earn money by selling your catch as well as fishing out
equipment that you could either benefit from yourself or sell
or give to other characters like rouges and alchemists who
might need something that could be acquired through fishing.
This is true especially with the cooking skill. There are also
a significant number of quests that require or help improve the
fishing skill.
While there are many guides out there that give advanced
tips on fishing, this one will focus on the first step to
benefiting from this profession – learning the basics.

You will definitely need the fishing skill taught by their
respective trainers, as well as fishing poles which could be
bought from either general goods shops or fishing supplies
stores. Other accessories such as lure are also
recommended.
Next step is to figure out where you can actually fish.
Theoretically this isn’t hard, since World of Warcraft has lots
of water you can fish in. But sometimes some people end up
finding the wrong fishing spot. The most common way to tell if
you’re in the wrong spot is that if you get a warning telling
you that you can’t fish here (“Your cast did not land in
fishable water”). But of course, always try to move closer into
the water (i.e. throwing your line to deeper waters) or taking
a different angle to see if you can fish in that area. Also,
areas where there are fishing trainers nearby are almost always
good fishing spots (they kind of act like indicators for
fishing spots).
To fish, equip the fishing pole and just use the fishing
skill in front of fishable water and your character will throw
the line in front of him at a random distance. Your character
will the start channeling the fishing “spell” and all you have
to do is to wait for the bobber (which appears after the line
is cast) to move and then click it with your mouse.
You catch different kinds of stuff at different locations
and moreover based on your level and equipment. This is
something you will get more familiar with as you use the skill
more. Of course, if you get a piece of junk then it either
means you were unlucky or your level isn’t high enough yet to
catch what you would have otherwise caught.
Happy fishing!
