Gold Basics

World of Warcraft currency is categorized into gold, silver and copper, with gold having the highest value and copper the minimum value. Every gold piece is worth 100 silver pieces or 10,000 copper pieces. Logically, a silver piece is also equivalent to 100 copper pieces.

Gold can either be transferred (as in traded for items on a store) or given to other players. Like all the other types of currencies in the game, money can’t be destroyed. They can only be accumulated, stored and spent.

Speaking of other currencies, there are also currencies such as honor points and arena points that are earned and collected through other means such as killing heroes from a different alignment (Alliance of Horde). These items are usually placed beside gold values, and you need to have both in order to purchase that priced item. Other items are also used as currency, but they are more of traded items unlike money, which is spent.

Easy Steps to Gold Gathering

Going back to gold, there are three basic tasks to accumulating gold as you go along leveling your character, namely:

1. Selling items to vendors,
2. Selling items to other players, and
3. Questing to get the money as reward along with other stuff.

Note: If you are playing as a rogue, you can also exploit your pickpocket talent to earn a little extra cash which can go a long way.

While methods number 1 & 2 are by principle the same, this guide will focus more in the perspective of selling items to players. This is because you can never really change the sell price when you’re transacting with NPC vendors, as opposed to transacting with other players, you can raise the price up a notch and earn a bit more.
