Fire Mages, on the other hand, is the build
that promises the most burst damage among the three builds,
which is probably it’s the more popular build among the three.
With all that additional damage over time, stun effect and
critical strikes, those who focus on the fire skill are usually
intended to be able to take out their opponent in a matter of
seconds by throwing them everything that they’ve got. Most PvP
mages are usually dependent on this build.
On the downside, this build might consume the most mana and
does very little to ensure the survival of the mage in case his
or her fire magic is resisted once. This is why some players
combine fire magic with arcane magic as a secondary element to
make up for this, as well as increase damage.

Lastly, Frost Mages are often said to
be a compromise between damage and efficiency in mana
consumption. Furthermore, this build has a lot of effects that
help mages stay safe and untouched in battle. Aside from the
fact that cold damage slows their opponents, frost magic has
spells like Ice Block that actually protects the mage while he
or she is casting spells.
Frost mages also do very well in killing mobs when grinding
or doing quests, as they can slow down their target and not
worry about getting hit while casting spells. This talent tree
is also the one with the most area of effect damage among the
three, ideal for crowd control.
Of course, the obvious downside to this is that the aspects
of frost magic are average compared to the fire and arcane
magic. Meaning, frost mages probably won’t deal as much damage
as fire mages and will probably not be as mana efficient as
arcane mages would be.
Of the three builds, many players try to build up their
mages with at least two of these magic types by taking one
primary element and taking another as secondary to compliment
the former.
Leveling/Building your Mage
Because of their damage and effect potential, mages are
usually more fun to use when at their maximum levels, and a
little bit more tedious than most at the beginning. Players are
going to have to plan their skills carefully based on their
chosen line of talents such that their skills at their current
level is enough to take down enemies to be able to gain
experience easily.
Naturally, mages will be happier with pro-spellcasting
equipment. More mana and intelligence means a more effective
mage. A good way to have this is to take up the Tailoring
profession and make your way up to being able to produce great
mage sets that insanely boost your spell power. As a supplement
to the effectiveness of Tailoring, the secondary profession
Skinning is recommended by most guides as well.
With a little perseverance and careful planning players will
definitely enjoy playing the Mage in World of Warcraft.
